A Precious Gift

There are so many amazing people around us who help weaves the tapestry of our life. Notice them, observe, inquire and act.Wonderful riches are to be mined from everyone around us from those we meet in random everyday encounters to the people close to us.To honor the most important  person  in our lives who gave us birth, brought us through infancy put up with our misdeeds and showered us with love. There is no role in life more essential and eternal  than that of motherhood. Mother has a divine role in cherishing and teaching  her kids. There is no perfect way to be a good mother as each situation is unique and each mother faces different challenges, different children .

A tradition can be traced back to the ancient Greek and Romans who held festivals in honor of the mother goddess Rhea and Cybele .In 1908 Anna Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia started a mother’s day  work club to teach local women how to  give proper care to  the children. Her daughter Anna Jarvis celebrated the first mother’s day as a way of honoring the mother. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed the second Sunday in May as the Mother’s day. “I realized when you look at your mother, you are looking at the purest love you will ever know”.-Mitch Albom

Lacey opened her eyes slowly, and noticed the  beautiful  white snow flakes  on the window. Last night  mom  promised to take her on a sledge ride and to build a snow man,  so she could not wait to start the exciting day. She grabbed her favorite doll, then climbed down from the bed to look for her mom. There she was helping her brother Ewin in his home work. Her mom hugged her and helped her in finishing  all the morning chorus from brushing teeth to taking  shower. During the break- fast she reminded Lacey that she will keep her promise after the school. Lacey enjoyed the school more as her mom started volunteering there in the library, in the art & craft sale, in the bake sale, in story time, driving the friends to museums and in school gardening. All her friends like her mom because, of her loving, caring, happy nature.Lacey and her brother used to bring home all the different arts & posters from school and their mom loved  to display them on the wall & on the refrigerator. Lacey remembered that couple  times  her mom was very sick but never missed work because with the extra income she wanted to spend in  vacation and in extracurricular activities as to  the music classes, dance classes, to dabate competitions. Every Summer and Winter  they enjoyed their breaks in hiking and adventuring in different national forests. Her mom always liked the quotes of Shakespeare “One touch of Nature makes the whole world kin” and Emerson’s “Nature always wears the color of the spirit.” In the middle school and in high school ,Lacey tried to defy her mother’s point in various circumstances and argued too,  but later agreed with her mom.  Even after the wedding and  two kids, at each step she tried to bring up the values that she has  learnt from her mom. Lacey looked at her calender to check all her busy  schedules for the coming week, and looked at the beautiful picture of both of her and her mom together  on the hiking trail in Santafe , the  enormous time and energy  her mother has given just  to make them happy. Every mother’s day both she and her brother tried to buy gifts for mom like the other kids ,but  her mom used to say that” Love is not measured in money or expensive gifts but  the time we spend with each other is important in life”.  Today Lacey decided to take the day off and fly  to see  and surprise her mom.

Lacey is grateful for the life, and the deep & incredible knowledge that her mother has given to her.” Mom the ribbons of your love are woven around my Heart’

Today I am wishing” Happy mother’s day” to all the mothers in their role in the family as a teacher , financial manager, personal chef, housekeeper, driver, judge, keeper of secrets,  errand runner, life guard, kiss & hug expert.
